The Lion is on the Loose
Zach Callison, best known for his voice-over portrayal of the cartoon character Stephen Universe, has become a true Renaissance Man. His latest endeavor, and perhaps the ultimate passion of heart, is as a musical artist, writer and performer.
Zach is currently on tour performing for crowded rooms songs off his debut album, “A Picture Perfect Hollywood Heartbreak”. It's a pseudo-biographical concept EP based upon a personal breakup that Zach endured and overcame. The album's fictitious character that is the source of his angst is Juanita. A character that proves to bring the singer to the brink of insanity and back.
The music is a passion-filled expression of the chemical unrest that comes from a tumultuous affair of young love. The complexity of the lyrics requires that the listener do more than just listen. To truly understand all the intricacies of the message the listener needs study the words and think about their implications and innuendos. Zach's musical style is difficult to categorize objectively. To some the music may be called Rap in a style like Eminem as the lead of Hamilton. To others it would be considered progressive rock with a brass and string section. And to others, a theatrical love story fused with high energy showmanship.
As Zach Callison moves on to new music, it will be interesting to observe who his music appeals to. He has the true talent to appeal to a diverse fanbase. The first time I saw him perform was at an Anime convention in Anaheim. After the show I said to him that he was like a lion that has been let out of his cage, releasing all that pent up energy. He said, "And I am never going back!" I believe that.
